Section deals with Natural Calamities like Heatwave, Cyclone, Urban Flooding, etc. but Separate wings are available to tackle different issues.
Section coordinates the emergency meetings may it be cyclone or Flood or other emergency related matters with the concerned line departments and also ensures interdepartmental coordination for the same.
Emergency section also prepares the City Disaster Management Plan in consultation with the stakeholders as per the guideline provided by OSDMA / NDMA.
Section used to furnish the daily rainfall figure during Rainy season and at the time of warning issued by IMD / Collector, Khordha & O/O: SRC. 4 nos of manual rain gauge stations have been installed in 3 zone offices and one at BMC HQ
Emergency Section used to prepare a Heat Wave Action Plan as per the guidelines provided by SRC & OSDMA. Section used to compile the action plan submitted by different stakeholders such as, WATCO, TPCODL, ADUPHO, Zones etc.
BMC used to open Paniya Jala Seva Kendras:-
During Summer season from – April to 15th June, managed by concerned Zone Offices
Also, allows different organisations to open Jala Chhatras if required.
Urban flooding is being dealt by Drainage and Sanitation Division of BMC. Drainage division identified 30 nos of water logging areas for the current year in which division used to place de-watering pumps and pump operators. Sometimes, uses the services of Fire Service to place de-watering pumps if situation demands. Similarly, Drainage divisions work for desilting of 10 major nalas of the city before monsoon. Sanitation division used to look after the desilting of local nalas in the city.
Climate Change related issued is being dealt by Environment Section of BMC. Environment section work for creating green covers in the city to adverse the impact of climate change.
